It’s January, so the perfect time to start my annual 30 Day Yoga Journey. I wanted to write about it here to encourage others to try, as I think yoga is one of the most worthwhile things you can do for your mind and body.
The original 30 Days of Yoga was established by Adriene Mishler on her Yoga with Adriene YouTube channel several years ago. Since then, she has continued to run a new 30-day programme each January, and I’ve taken part for the last few years.
The programme for 2022 is called ‘Move’ and focuses on movement for health and wellbeing. It is designed to help those taking part with their mental and physical health: yoga can contribute to general fitness and toning, flexibility and strength, as well as mindfulness and the relief of anxiety. It can promote mental wellbeing and a sense of calm, allowing you the time to focus on self-care and looking after your own mind and body.
Day 0, on the first of January, is an introductory day with no yoga – the actual yoga begins on 2 January, and continues until the 31st. Of course, you can start the programme at any time – all the videos remain up on YouTube. There are plenty of other yoga videos available too, you can pick one up once a week or whenever suits you.
Adriene is a warm, friendly influence and I always feel better when I sit down to take part in one of her practices. Regular yoga has done me a lot of good and I find the 30 days programme is a fantastic way to get into a good habit.
Caveat: individuals with certain medical conditions might find yoga is not suitable for them – please check with your doctor if you are not sure.
